All the time, I'm always thinking about buying cool stuffs to mod my computer. Then recently. I noticed that my computer is running too hot for my liking. Therefore, I went to search for some nice CPU coolers and I found this.
Xigmatek Red Scorpion S-1283 HDT
An outstanding performance air cooler with H.D.T. technology, RED SCORPION-S1283 creates most efficient heat conduction and particular spoiler design to cool down components around CPU.
RED SCORPION-S1283 combines transparent colorful fan, Nickel Heat-pipe (Φ8mm), 4pcs white LED lights on fan, anti-vibration rubber, spoiler and 3 in 1 application retention module.
With anti-vibration rubber for fan and 3 in 1 application retention module design, RED SCORPION-S1283 provides users not only easier and quicker installation, but also lowest noise level.
H.D.T. (Heat-pipe direct touch) technology.
4pcs white LED on Fan
Transparent colorful housing and blade.
Anti-vibration rubber design.
3pcs Φ8mm high performance U type heat-pipes.
120mm highly efficient PWM fan.
Light weight.
High performance & easy installation.
3 in 1 application: LGA775 push-pin / K8 & AM2 tool-less clip.
Had to take out the whole motherboard to mount the heatsink. I also bought the mounting bracket plus some Gelid GC-1 performance thermal paste go with it. The pins included with the heatsink didn't provide a secure mount and some say that it might bend your motherboard over a long period of time. Thus I used the mounting bracket which costs less than MYR50. The thermal paste is to ensure maximum contact between the processor and the cooler. It fills up the tiny gaps in between. Heat transfers better through solid than air.
Anyway, after some testing and some burn in using Prime 95 and other benchmarking softwares, I found that temperature was well kept. At stock settings aka no overclock, during idling, temperatures remain at about 30-40C. Noise level was way quieter than the stock ones due to the size of the fan which is 120mm. Larger fan do not need to spin as fast to give the same amount of airflow.
